Leonard Cohen to Play Vegas Again

One of the most acclaimed lyricists — some might say poets — of all time will wrap up his world tour later this year in Las Vegas. Leonard Cohen, the Canadian singer-songwriter known for his rich, somber masterworks, will perform December 10 and 11 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Tickets are available at the Caesars box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.

Many of Cohen’s biggest fans are sure to wonder whether the Bard will perform “Hallelujah,” the iconic song that gained mainstream exposure on the last season of American Idol. There’s only one way to know for sure.

Las Vegans Appear on Richest List

The 2010 Forbes 400 Richest Americans list includes a smattering of names representing Las Vegas’ marquee industry, as well as a couple of lesser-known locals. Chief among them is Las Vegas Sands boss Sheldon Adelson, ranked 13th overall and first among Las Vegans, with a net worth of $14.7 billion. Adelson rose from 26th place on last year’s list.

Others on the list who made their names and fortunes thanks to Vegas’ foremost industry include Treasure Island owner Phil Ruffin (182); Wynn Resorts boss Steve Wynn (205); his ex-wife, Elaine Wynn (382); and Station Casinos owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta (365 and 385).

Two other locals on the list amassed their bankroll without the help of freewheeling tourists: Nancy Walton Laurie of Henderson (136), the niece of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, and Las Vegas resident Alfred Mann (332), founder of the MannKind Corporation.

Through the end of the month, members of the Discovery Club — signup is free — can receive two buffets for the price of one. If you’re fortunate enough to go on a day when the buffet includes Asian walnut shrimp, don’t pass it up. For more information, visit the hotel’s dining site.

The event is free and kicks off festivities for the Camping World Truck Series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The first 200 fans to show up for a 6:30 p.m. live radio show will receive free tickets to Saturday’s race and garage passes. Drawings for driver merchandise will be held after the event.
