Las Vegans Appear on Richest List

The 2010 Forbes 400 Richest Americans list includes a smattering of names representing Las Vegas’ marquee industry, as well as a couple of lesser-known locals. Chief among them is Las Vegas Sands boss Sheldon Adelson, ranked 13th overall and first among Las Vegans, with a net worth of $14.7 billion. Adelson rose from 26th place on last year’s list.

Others on the list who made their names and fortunes thanks to Vegas’ foremost industry include Treasure Island owner Phil Ruffin (182); Wynn Resorts boss Steve Wynn (205); his ex-wife, Elaine Wynn (382); and Station Casinos owners Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta (365 and 385).

Two other locals on the list amassed their bankroll without the help of freewheeling tourists: Nancy Walton Laurie of Henderson (136), the niece of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, and Las Vegas resident Alfred Mann (332), founder of the MannKind Corporation.
