It will be a very merry 2011 for a California resident who hit a $2.9 million jackpot recently on a penny slot machine in Las Vegas.

Dorothy Reynolds of Fallbrook, Calif., struck gold while playing a Wizard of Oz machine at Planet Hollywood on the Strip. In town with her family over the holidays, Reynolds joked that her first name might have had something to do with her good fortune while playing Oz.

David Hoenemeyer, the casino’s general manager, said, “We are always thrilled to see our casino guests’ dreams come true.”
